The Frank C. Jones handbooks were full of interesting home built projects. I bought the 1936 reprint of the handbook and was inspired to build the transmitter and wave meter shown.
Note the wavemeter pickup loop hanging beside the right table leg. It is attached to a nice long cherry wood handle to keep me a few inches away from the 1500 volts on the tank coil when making measurements.
The rig uses a pair of 813’s. Yes, the neutralizing caps are far too large for the 813. Neutralizing is accomplished by a three-inch piece of wire beside the tube. The caps shown looked so good I decided to leave them in place.
